 A long time ago, lived a young couple along Shen Yexin He’s
river side. The husband was a fisherman and the wife a seamstress.
They lived a difficult life, but they were very loving and happy.
One year, between the fall and winter seasons, the husband fell
ill and was getting worse by the day. He became so sick that he
could not get out of bed and his life was in danger. The wife,
wanting to save her husband, begged doctors for medication and
herbs. The wife heard that ginseng could save a person’s
life even if they were near death. Everyday she hiked the mountains
to look for ginseng but couldn’t find any. One afternoon,
after being gone for half a day, the wife was hungry and decided
to stop to eat. A white haired man walked up to her and asked her
for some food. Although she was hungry and thirsty, she gave half
her food and water to the old man. After the old man ate, he pointed
to the top of the mountain and said “It’s
easy to find something simple, but it’s hard to find someone
with a good heart.”
